Getting a job in the sports industry is difficult due to how much competition virtually every job opening has. Assuming you have worked to gain the right experience during your college years, how do you go about a job search after graduating? That’s what Nicole from Minnesota asks the WorkInSports Podcast:
“Hey Brian, I’m embarrassed to admit this, but after graduating in May, I’ve kind of slacked off the last three months. September is the month to get me back on track. Can you help me build a job search strategy?”

Putting Together a Winning Job Search Strategy
When actively searching for a job, it’s tempting to cast a wide net with spray and pray techniques (applying for anything that appeals to you the moment you see it without necessarily having skills that fit). That typically does not work and results in wasted time and frustration. Here is what VP of Content and Engaged Learning Brian Clapp suggests you do instead:
• Clean up your social media profile (look at it through the eyes of an employer)
• Contact your references and make sure they will still vouch for you
• Compare your skills on your resume to what the jobs you want require
• Customize your resume for each job you apply for
