5 Signs it’s Time to Break Up With Your Current Career

Bored and unhappy at work? Missing that passion you used to have? Here are 5 signs it’s time to leave your current career for something better.

1.The thought of going to work in the morning makes you groan.

Some trouble getting out of bed on a Monday morning is normal, but if you wake up dreading your workplace every day, it might be cause for concern. Motivation is key for engagement, which drives your performance and ultimate gratification. If there’s nothing pulling you out of bed in the morning, start thinking about what you really need in a job.

2.Your relationship is a one-way street.

You’re not getting any personal benefit out of what you do. You never have a big, exciting project to discuss with friends or family and you have no pride in your work. Basically, you’re exhausted, and you keep giving your time and effort but the job never reciprocates.

3.You’ve been checking out other options.

Have you been asking your friends about their jobs, reading articles meant for people in other professions, or even educating yourself in skills entirely unrelated to your industry? If you’re highly interested in something else, it might be time to sit down and seriously investigate the other fish in the sea.

4.You feel trapped.

Even if you’ve been browsing other careers on US News and World Report, it might be difficult to believe you can truly transition successfully into something else. If you’re constantly thinking about a career shift only to tell yourself it’s an impossible dream, chances are you really want a change.

5.Things have been going downhill for a while.

You’ve tried everything you can think of, but nothing improves your feelings. This isn’t a fleeting disagreement with a co-worker or something easily fixed with a rejuvenating vacation. It’s much larger than that, and you just know you don’t want to do this anymore. You and your career simply aren’t compatible.

If these sound like you, your overall health could benefit from a transition into an industry better suited to your personality and needs. Find your niche® and begin your journey to a happier, more fulfilling life.
