Ask an HR Pro: What Should I Put on My Careers Page?
One of the best ways to attract top talent and build a positive employer brand is to have a robust careers page on your company website. According to iHire’s 2023 State of Online Recruiting Report, more than half of job seekers surveyed (51.6%) said they check the website of a company they want to work for when looking for a job. If your careers page isn’t up to par, it could turn away promising candidates.
So, what should you include on your website to create the best company career page? In this Ask an HR Pro, we talked with Chrisanne Bowden, iHire’s Senior HR Consultant, to find out what makes a great careers page, and why.
What Makes a Great Careers Page?
“First off, you need to make sure it looks like a legitimate page,” Bowden said. “It should appear modern and professional so that potential applicants aren’t scared off before they even check out your open positions.”
That means it should have the same branding as the rest of your website and be free of spelling and grammar mistakes. Additionally, more and more job seekers are using phones or tablets to apply to jobs, so you should also make sure your page works properly on mobile devices. Once you have that down, you can move on to the meat of the page.
The Jobs
“Obviously, the most important aspect is the jobs themselves,” Bowden continued. “But the best company career pages are thoughtful with their job listings. The postings should be detailed, but don’t simply include a long list of the job description with multiple paragraphs. A clear title, location, key duties, and brief explanation of the job is usually better.”
If you want to go into extra detail, Bowden recommended including a “Read More” link to the specific posting and application. There you can include the full details of the job. For your career page, though, keep the basics of what makes a good job ad in mind to get started.
The Extras
You should have more on your career page than just the job listings, though. Bowden said this is a good spot to show job seekers what it’s like to work at your company.
“Career pages on websites are a great way to build a strong employer brand,” she explained. “Include a short bio about your company, touch on your core values, and talk about the benefits you offer. Adding testimonials from current or former employees shows that you can walk the talk, too.”
If you have testimonials, including them on this page can help sway candidates on the fence about applying. According to the 2023 State of Online Recruiting report, 38.5% of job seekers want to read reviews and testimonials, and 29.4% said they always check out these insights before applying for a job.
Highlighting what makes your organization unique will make you stand out from other employers. Plus, it can cut down on unqualified applicants who might decide it’s not a good fit. Along with the ideas above, you can also include:
- Videos and photos of life at your company
- Highlights of company events or trips
- Philanthropy or community service opportunities
- Workplace awards
- A carousel to show off customer reviews
“Including extra slice-of-life examples on your career page will show candidates how great it is to work at your organization and will make it more enticing to top talent,” Bowden added.

A Note About Company Profiles on Job Boards
Similar to a career page on a website, many job boards (like iHire) encourage businesses to create Company Profiles to give job seekers on their platform an idea of who the company is. Filling out your company profile is a great idea, for the same reasons that having a career page is smart.
“Depending on the job board, you might not have as much leeway of what you can include on your company profile but try to match your careers page as closely as possible,” Bowden advised. “For example, iHire offers a robust company profile with many of the same options as a self-owned web page. But if all you can include is a brief company bio, you should still include it.”
