Your resume is one of the most important things you will write in your sports career. It sets the tone of who you are to prospective employers. Today’s question for the WorkInSports Podcast comes from William in South Carolina, who is looking for some resume tips:
“Hey Brian – I recently read an article on Buzzfeed from a Google Senior Recruiter explaining what she wants to see on a resume. Do you agree with her take?”
How to Write a Good Resume
Assuming you are following our advice and tailoring your resume to each job you apply for (as opposed to “spray and pray” with one document), here are a few more resume tips to keep in mind:
- Get rid of the objective statement: It is a waste of space that focuses more on what you want (the job you are applying for) when you could describe why you have what the employer needs on their team.
- Ditch your address: It is unnecessary on a resume in 2022. Just list the city, state, and ZIP code.
- Get past applicant tracking systems: Highlight skills that match the job description.
- Show your impact: Use metrics to support your accomplishments with data.
