Regular, full-time (260 Days)

POSITION SUMMARY :
Lead and coordinate the Board approved high school athletic program and supervise the personnel associated with it.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Practice and promote sportsmanship, ethical principles and responsible behavior; and welcome competing teams and guests .
  • Administer interscholastic policies and procedures according to the rules of the Ohio High School Athletic Association.
  • Serve on the selection committee for new coaches, and recommend coaches' job assignments to the High School Principal.
  • Provide guidance for coaches, and assist with their evaluations, as specified in written procedures.
  • Verify that coaches have the training and certificates required by State and local policies.
  • Make recommendations for program improvements and the improvement of athletic facilities.
  • Develop and publicize the interscholastic game schedules. Supervise all home contests, or arrange for supervision by school administrators.
  • Assure that gate receipts are properly safeguarded and deposited.
  • Contract with game officials, including those assigned by the Ohio Capital Conference.
  • Develop and administer the athletic budget. Submit monthly financial reports to the Principal, the Athletic Council, the Booster Club and the coaches.
  • Maintain records associated with the athletic program; for example, contracts, sports statistics, student and staff files.
  • Oversee the arrangements for athletic contests and tournaments, including supervision, travel, broadcasts, publicity and schedule changes.
  • Work cooperatively with the Athletic Booster Club, serving as school liaison for the coaches, and facilitating Booster Club projects.
  • Oversee the maintenance of the athletic equipment and facilities, including the stadium, the training room and other game, practice and physical education areas.
  • Arrange for required services, such as parking and security. Assign keys to the coaching staff.
  • Schedule the athletic facilities for school staff and outside groups.
  • Schedule high school athletic assemblies and pep rallies.
  • Supervise all high school athletic awards programs.
  • Certify the scholastic eligibility of student athletes.
  • Schedule physical examinations as required by the High School Athletic Association.
  • Chair the Marysville Athletic Council, and report the Council's recommendations to the Superintendent.
  • Represent the school district at conference, district and state meetings.
  • Conduct an annual review of the athletic handbook, and submit changes to the Superintendent for School Board approval.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Distribute athletic contest passes to the appropriate people.
  • Sell athletic supplies to qualified athletes.
  • Send reminders of coming events to the schools and the officials.
  • Maintain an appropriate personal appearance.
  • Observe all safety and health regulations of the school district.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the High School Principal or the Superintendent.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Pupil Activity Supervisor Validation, preferred.
  • Ohio teaching certificate/license, preferred.
  • Experience as a coach or athletic director, preferred.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to work effectively and in a positive manner with high school athletes.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with adults and to direct sports activities in a positive manner.
  • Knowledge of budgeting and the ability to prepare financial statements.
  • Well-developed organizational and problem solving skills.
  • Basic computer skills or willingness to acquire those skills.
  • Ability to meet the time requirements of after school and weekend duties.
EQUIPMENT OPERATED:
  • Maintenance equipment, such as lawn mowers and tractors.
  • Scoreboards and scoreboard controls.
  • Watering system.
  • Golf carts.
  • Bleachers.
  • Ladders.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Potential exposure to blood or other body fluids.
  • Regular exposure to hazardous athletic equipment.
  • Close proximity to people running.
  • Potential exposure to unruly people.
  • Exposure to dust, pollen and inclement weather conditions.
  • Occasional operation of a vehicle in inclement weather; that is, being prepared to work on all scheduled days, including calamity days.
  • Regular requirement to sit, walk, talk, hear, see and read.
  • Occasional requirement to lift, carry, push and pull various items; for example, athletic equipment, up to 50 lbs.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT :
  • Length of Employment: 1 - 3 year initial contract
