Job Seeker Help Center

Why is iHire collecting demographic information from job seekers?

iHire is dedicated to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in the workplace. To support this effort, we are compiling demographic data from our candidate users on a voluntary basis to evaluate fair hiring practices; ensure our product offerings promote inclusivity; comply with federal, state, and local laws; and develop tools and features to help employers with their DEI hiring strategies.

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • What is demographic data?

Demographic data relates to the characteristics of human populations and is frequently used for statistical analysis to better understand a group of people. Examples of common demographics include age, race/ethnicity, and gender/gender identity.

  • What demographic information is iHire collecting and why?

As part of our efforts to support DEI in hiring, iHire is collecting demographic information from our candidate users on a voluntary basis. The specific demographic data iHire is collecting comprises:

  • Age/Birth Year
  • Race/Ethnicity
  • Gender/Gender Identity
  • Ability/Disability
  • LGBTQIA+
  • Military Experience

By focusing on the above list of demographics, iHire will be able to compile anonymous data for statistical analysis to assess fairness in hiring, maintain compliance with updated employment laws, and promote equal access to opportunities in the workplace.

iHire users will also be able to opt in to share their demographic information with employers. This extra optional step enables iHire to advocate for members of underrepresented groups by highlighting those candidates in our hiring tools.

  • How will my demographic data be used?

iHire’s optional demographic data form requires users to consent to sharing their information confidentially for statistical analysis and compliance purposes. This allows iHire to aggregate data from across our user base to evaluate fair hiring practices and ensure compliance with employment laws.

Users can also opt in to share their specific demographic information with employers to support DEI in hiring. This additional step enables iHire to advocate for members of underrepresented groups by highlighting those candidates in our hiring tools. This is completely optional and entirely separate from consenting to sharing demographic information confidentially for data aggregation purposes.

  • Will potential employers be able to see my personal demographic information?

Employers will only be able to see your demographic information if you opt in to sharing that data to support DEI in hiring. A user who completes that additional opt-in step agrees that iHire can share specific personal details for the purposes of advocating for candidates of historically underrepresented groups.

  • How can I share my demographic data with iHire?

iHire’s demographic data form can be accessed in a variety of ways, including via the account/profile dropdown link at the top right of the page when you are signed into the site. Users can also reach the form via direct links in email and social media posts. If you are having trouble accessing the demographic data form, please contact our Customer Success team at [email protected] or 866-238-0161.

  • I no longer want to share my demographic information with iHire. How can I remove it?

The demographic data form includes the ability to modify or delete information. This text link can be found at the bottom of the form next to the consent checkbox.
